Walk & Hikes
French Immersion Through Nature And Movement

Walking is one of the most natural ways to speak a language. When the body moves, the mind relaxes — and conversation flows more easily.
These walks and hikes are designed to encourage spontaneous spoken French, away from the pressure of a classroom, in calm and inspiring natural settings.
Depending on the route, excursions are guided half-day outings, while shorter walks around the house can also take place independently or be integrated into our morning classes. All activities are adapted to the weather, energy levels, and your French proficiency.
The Rock of Solutré
Prehistoric site and vineyard views
The Rock of Solutré is a major archaeological and prehistoric site and one of the most emblematic landscapes of southern Burgundy. After a scenic 30-minute drive, we begin a walk of a little over an hour, reaching a spectacular viewpoint over the vineyards of the Mâconnais — including those producing the famous Pouilly-Fuissé wines.
This walk combines culture, landscape and gentle physical effort, creating ideal conditions for relaxed conversation. As we walk, we talk — naturally — about history, nature, wine, and everyday topics, all in French.
Why this walk works for French immersion
-
Calm rhythm that encourages spontaneous speaking
-
Rich vocabulary linked to history, landscape and wine
-
Learning through shared experience rather than explanation
Mont Saint Rigaud
The highest point in the Rhône
Mont Saint-Rigaud is the highest point in the Rhône department and a wonderful place for a deeper immersion into nature. The standard half-day excursion includes a walk of about one hour around the mountain, followed by a visit to a natural spring traditionally known for its many virtues.
For those who enjoy longer hikes, this excursion can also become a full-day experience. In good weather, we can follow a 15 km route (approximately 5 hours of walking), with a picnic at the summit — a rewarding and memorable way to experience the landscape.
Half-day or full-day options
-
Half-day: gentle hike and spring visit
-
Full day (weather permitting): extended route and picnic on the top
-
Adapted pace and route according to your energy level
These longer walks offer extended time for conversation, storytelling, and vocabulary development, all in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Learning French through movement
Why walking changes the way you speak
Walking side by side naturally removes the pressure of face-to-face conversation. There is no table, no notebook, no sense of “being tested.” This makes speaking feel easier, more fluid, and more confident.
For many learners, walking:
-
reduces anxiety
-
encourages longer, more natural exchanges
-
helps vocabulary emerge organically
This is why walking plays an important role in my immersion approach, alongside more structured learning moments.
