Wine & Sensory Experiences
French Immersion Through Wine, Language and the Senses

Wine is part of everyday culture in this region, but understanding it is not about becoming an expert. It’s about learning to describe sensations, express opinions, and talk about a shared experience, in French.
These half-day excursions use wine as a cultural and sensory gateway to develop spoken French in a natural, relaxed and accessible way. No prior wine knowledge is required. Curiosity is more than enough.
Both destinations are located about 30 minutes away, and the drive itself is part of the experience, as we cross the prestigious Beaujolais crus area.
Château de Pizay : oeno-sensory experience
Discovering wine through the senses
Located in the heart of Beaujolais, Château de Pizay offers a playful and immersive oeno-sensory experience designed to explore wine through smell, touch, sight and language.
The route is accessible to everyone and focuses on building vocabulary related to wine and tasting, without technical complexity. It is one of the richest experiences for developing descriptive language in French.
The journey to Pizay takes us through several Beaujolais crus, including Chiroubles, Morgon, Régnié, Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly — an ideal introduction to the geography and identity of the region.
At the end of the visit, there is a guided tasting of 13 wines.
(No worries — I’m the one driving.)
Beyond the sensory route, the estate also features:
-
formal French gardens designed by Le Nôtre, architect of Versailles
-
a renowned spa, for those interested (optional, at an additional cost)
Why this experience works for French immersion

Extensive vocabulary linked to wine and tasting

Learning French Through the Senses
From tasting to talking
Sensory experiences naturally stimulate language. Describing aromas, textures and emotions encourages precision, comparison and opinion — essential skills for spoken French.
By focusing on sensations rather than expertise, these wine-related excursions:
-
remove performance pressure
-
invite personal expression
-
encourage spontaneous conversation
Wine becomes a medium for communication, not the goal itself.
